Another Shock Defeat for the Greek National Team Against Portugal in Athens

The Greek National Team concluded the July “window” in the worst possible way, suffering a second consecutive defeat in the 2027 World Cup qualifiers, this time against Portugal with a score of 56-71 at the SUNEL Arena.

Vassilis Spanoulis’ team appeared nervous, inaccurate, and lacked consistency in their play. Greece struggled to find an offensive rhythm from early on, remained low on the scoreboard, and although they tried to react at times, they couldn’t change the course of the game.

Portugal showed greater consistency, controlled the tempo, built a double-digit lead in the second half, and secured a very important victory. Thus, following the defeat in Romania, the National Team’s record dropped to 3-3, and they now face even greater pressure for the remainder of the qualifiers.

Quarter scores: 15-19, 23-28, 42-53, 56-71.
