Speculation about Zeljko Obradovic’s future has intensified in recent days, just a few months after his departure from Partizan.
One thing, however, is certain: Panathinaikos, the nine-time EuroLeague champion, has identified the Serbian coach as its top target, and an outcome could arrive soon.
Partizan fans are trying to persuade Obradovic to return to the club he left last November, the same club with which he won the European championship in 1992.
An open letter was also published on one of the fan pages, appealing to Obradovic not to take over the Greens or any other club besides Partizan.
However, apart from his beloved Partizan, Obradovic is also deeply connected to Panathinaikos, whom he coached from 1999 to 2012 and led to five EuroLeague titles.
On Friday afternoon (June 19), the experienced coach is expected to travel from Belgrade to Athens, where negotiations with the Greens are expected to enter a crucial phase.
More information is expected by the end of the week, while Obradovic himself has said that he will make a final decision on which team to take over – if he returns to coaching at all – by the end of the month.
