With Mario Hezonja’s move to the Cleveland Cavaliers now officially resolved, attention in the European basketball market has quickly shifted to another player represented by powerhouse Serbian agent Misko Raznatovic.
On Saturday, EuroLeague newcomer Besiktas announced the signing of American point guard David DeJulius. A player whom his current club, UCAM Murcia, insists remains under contract. As a result, another transfer saga appears to be unfolding.

After an outstanding season in Spain, where DeJulius found under head coach Sito Alonso the ideal environment to emerge as one of the league’s most impactful guards, the former Michigan (two seasons) and Cincinnati (three seasons) standout attracted interest from several higher-profile clubs, fueling speculation about a return to the EuroLeague. He previously had a brief stint with Maccabi Tel Aviv during the 2024-25 season, although without much success.
According to UCAM Murcia, however, the Detroit native signed a contract extension through 2028 last March, right in the middle of his breakout campaign in Spain’s top division.
After previous stops with Lavrio, Gottingen, Aris Thessaloniki, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Bursaspor, DeJulius finally found the place where his talent truly flourished.
From the opening weeks of the season, it became evident that he was a perfect fit for Murcia’s offensive system. His explosive first step, ability to attack in pick-and-roll situations and constant perimeter threat thrived in a scheme that gives its point guards the freedom to make decisions. Unlike previous stops in his career, Murcia provided him with continuity, confidence and a clearly defined role as the team’s primary offensive weapon.
His production reflected that growth. Averaging 17.7 points and 4.3 assists per game, the American finished the Liga Endesa regular season as the league’s second-leading scorer while also ranking among the top ten in both assists and player efficiency rating. Those numbers were not the result of isolated performances but of remarkable consistency throughout the year, establishing DeJulius as one of the standout players in the competition.
His impact extended well beyond the stat sheet. DeJulius showcased elite speed in every aspect of the game —his movement, decision-making and execution— producing memorable performances such as his 35-point outing against BAXI Manresa and his historic display versus Coviran Granada, when he recorded 31 points and 11 assists to become the first player in UCAM Murcia history to post at least 30 points and 10 assists in the same Liga Endesa game. Equally unforgettable were his 41 points against PAOK Thessaloniki in the second leg of the FIBA Europe Cup semifinals, even though Murcia ultimately fell short and was eliminated.0
His performances earned both team and individual recognition. UCAM Murcia completed the best regular season in club history, finishing fourth with0 a 25-9 record, tied with both the second- and third-place teams. DeJulius was also named to the All-Liga Endesa First Team alongside Jean Montero (Valencia Basket), Mario Hezonja (Real Madrid), Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot (Baskonia) and Luka Bozic (Coviran Granada). It marked the first time a UCAM Murcia player had received the honor and confirmed his rise from intriguing prospect to one of the biggest stars in Spanish basketball.
After years of alternating between complementary roles and developmental projects, DeJulius finally found in Sito Alonso’s system the freedom, confidence and continuity he needed to showcase the most complete version of his game. At 26 years old, he had evolved from a promising talent into one of Europe’s premier point guards.
But what once looked like a perfect partnership, with DeJulius becoming a fan favorite in Murcia, now appears headed for a bitter ending.
UCAM maintains that the player remains under contract and has made it clear that it is prepared to pursue any legal action necessary to defend its contractual rights. Besiktas, meanwhile, has officially announced the signing but will be unable to register the player for competition unless DeJulius first obtains a formal release from his current club.
The situation becomes even more ironic considering another recent move involving Raznatovic… and UCAM. Just two weeks ago, UCAM Murcia signed Souleymane Boum, another player represented by the Serbian agent. Raznatovic celebrated the deal on X, posting that the Guinean guard had arrived in Murcia to “fill the vacancy at point guard in the best possible way,” punctuating the message with a smiling emoji.

Even then, relations between the parties had reportedly become strained, and the post was not well received in Murcia. Now, following Besiktas’ announcement, further developments are expected. The dispute is likely to end either with the Turkish club paying financial compensation to UCAM Murcia or, failing that, in court.
One thing already seems certain: another of European basketball’s biggest offseason transfer sagas is only just beginning.
