The Greek National Team continued its 2027 World Cup qualifying campaign with a loss, suffering a comeback defeat to Romania with a final score of 73-66, a result that will carry over to the second phase and complicates the effort to qualify for Qatar.
Vassilis Spanoulis’ team was in control for about 35 minutes, even leading by a double-digit margin in the second half, and ended the third period with a +7 lead (51-58).
However, they collapsed in the final quarter, scoring just eight points and being outscored 22-8.
The Romanians capitalized on the missed shots and turnovers of the ‘blue-and-whites’, turned the game around in the final minutes, and secured a major victory.
The top scorer for Romania was Daron Russell with 20 points, while for Greece, Giannoulis Larentzakis stood out with 16, making a significant contribution for most of the contest.
